Workshop 1: Know Your Pronunciation

Pronunciation plays an important role in communication. The ability to speak well gives us an edge over others, especially in an international environment.

Good pronunciation skills also help you boost your self-confidence and improve social interactions.

In this workshop, participants will learn:
- word stress
- long and short vowels
- how important good pronunciation is

Workshop 2: Phonics and Early Learning Literacy

 
Research has shown that learning phonics can help a child to read and spell better.

This workshop aims to develop early literacy skills in pronunciation, word recognition, reading and writing skills.

Parents will know how children learn to read using techniques such as:
- memory
- language patterns
- visual recognition
- phonics

Workshop 3: Success with Presentation

Often have sweaty palms or butterflies in your stomach when presenting in front of an audience? Poorly organized thoughts and the lack of confidence to engage the audience can hamper the delivery of your presentation.

Learn how you can help your children prepare for their first presentations in school.

This workshop explores useful techniques, such as pauses, intonation, and voice projection that are applicable to both children and adults.

A note about the speaker
Matthew Winchester is the Marsiling branch deputy manager at British Council. He studied psychology at the University of Plymouth and specialised in non-verbal communication and children with learning and behavioural difficulties.

Before joining the British Council Singapore, Matthew taught 2 to 82 year olds at the Shane English Schools in Japan, where he was the Assistant Director for the Kita Kanto district.
