Partners: Timbre Music Bistro & Bar and The British Council

For this edition of Rock Your World, The British Council - a valued partner of the Speak Good English Movement - brought in acclaimed UK poet/writer/producer/DJ Charlie Dark for a one night only Rock Your World performance at Timbre Music Bistro & Bar, the official venue for the Speak Good English Movement this year.

Before Charlie Dark took to the stage, popular local musicians from Wake Me Up Music, Jon Chan and Jean Low, held the crowd enraptured with their sweet harmonies and pleasing tunes. Hailing from veteran punk rock band, Plain Sunset, and up and rising indie band, Giants Must Fall, respectively, Jon and Jean came together for a special joint acoustic performance for Rock Your World.

After a brief interval, Charlie Dark came on to play some of his electronic/hip-hop music to introduce himself and to give the audience a taste of what was in store.

Charlie Dark then invited local hip-hop musicians, Danny Jay of Vintage Flav'r, Kevin, and Syaheed of Bedsty Music Productions, to come on stage and join him for a rap performance. The audience was treated to a special international music collaboration between the UK and Singapore as Charlie, Danny, Kevin, and Syaheed put up a performance they prepared only just the day before.

Improvisation was the driving force behind the performance as the drumbeat thudded and words flowed incessantly. Creative expression in good English basked in the limelight with the performers weaving their rhymes into and over each others' lyrics.

But that wasn't all. Egged on by our local musicians and the audience, Charlie Dark was persuaded into giving one of his acclaimed poetry performances. Showing his talent and skill, Charlie Dark improvised and created a poem as he recited it. The audience responded at the poem's end with loud cheers and applause, and thus ended this special edition of Rock Your World.
