25 June 2008 - Mr Goh Eck Kheng, Publisher of Landmark Books Pte Ltd, has been appointed as
Chairman of the SGEM committee for the term starting 1 March 2008 till 30 April 2010.
He succeeds Professor Koh Tai Ann.

On his appointment, Mr Goh said, "The task initially seemed very daunting. However,
once I understood that SGEM is a movement, and that we have many groups of people
who are actively helping to improve the standard of English in Singapore, the challenges
no longer felt insurmountable. Everyone who speaks English well can also play a part in
the movement. We need to hear good English spoken everywhere – in shops, schools
and all social settings – so that those who wish to speak better English have a model to
follow."

Mr Goh sits on the Board of MDA and is a founding member of TheatreWorks.
Professor Koh served as Chairman of the SGEM committee from 2005 till 2008, and was
a steadfast proponent of Singapore Standard English, a variety of standard English
unique to Singapore. Professor Koh wishes Mr Goh all the best for his term as SGEM
Chairman.

SGEM thanks Professor Koh for her unwavering enthusiasm and contributions towards
the cause of good English. SGEM warmly welcomes Mr Goh as he receives the baton to
bring the movement into its next phase.
