FAQ FAQ
We have complied a list of questions most commonly asked by our website visitors. Hopefully, this will save you time from having to email us your queries.
Q: I would like to learn English at your institution. Please send me a prospectus and information on airfare and accomodation.
The Speak Good English Movement is not an institution or learning centre. The Movement itself does not conduct courses because we work with many partner organisations who are specialists in teaching English to children and adults.
These organisations provide their expertise in teaching:
- Basic, Intermediate and Advance English
- Business communication
- Storytelling and Reading
- Speech and Drama
Please look up our section on English Courses to find a course/programme that best suits your needs.
Q: I would like to improve my English. How can I do so?
Learning English, or any language for that matter, takes time and practice.
One of the most effective ways is to immerse yourself in an English-speaking environment.
For example, if you want to improve your English, be around people who speak English well. This means, you will be able to:
- learn how words are pronounced
- increase your vocabulary
- build your confidence as you interact more with them
The key is to speak more English. The more you speak, the better you'll get.
Every individual's need is different so we also suggest that you:
- take up a course to improve your English
- attend a library programme to improve your English
- try out the Lessons & Tips section on this website
- make more friends who can speak to you in English
Q: Can you recommend programmes to me that are suitable for my child/myself? Where can I go for them?
We suggest you visit the Events calendar to find out more about the Movement's programmes and pick those that interest you.
Many of the Movement's programmes take place at the National Library Board's libraries around Singapore, so you should be able to find one located near you.
No registration is required for library programmes unless otherwise stated. Likewise, library programmes are free unless otherwise stated.
Programmes/activities held at our partner organisations may be chargeable. Please check with the organisation directly if fees apply.
Please note that the Speak Good English Movement is based in Singapore and hence, all our activities are conducted in Singapore.
You can also look for other programmes that may not be related to the Speak Good English Movement on the NLB online catalogue.
Q: I live in XXX housing estate. What are the nearest places I can go to for English lessons? How much do they cost?
We recommend you vist the English Courses section on this website to see if our partner organisations have an office near you.
Course fees will vary according to the level, frequency and duration of the course.
Q: Do you have any more online lessons that I can listen to?
At the moment, there are no plans to develop any more online lessons.
In the meantime, you may subscribe to our FREE fortnightly e-newsletter English@Work for more tips on communication, English words trivia and book reviews.
Q: I’ve got questions on the English language. For example should I use "correspondence" or "correspondences"? Who can I ask?
To get advice from English language specialists, visit "English As It Is Broken".
Alternatively, you can check in on the Ask About English section of this website to read more about the answers to commonly asked questions on the English language.
Q: I/My organisation would like to take part in the Speak Good English Movement. What can I do? Who can I speak to?
We are always on the lookout for new and exciting programmes to help Singaporeans speak well. We have many partner organisations that help develop and organise free programmes/events to help people of various ages and needs improve their English.
Please contact us and let us know how we can partner you.
