"Synonym" vs "Simile"

Are they the same?

QUESTION

What is a synonym? What’s a simile? Are they the same?

ANSWER

A synonym refers to a word that has the same or nearly the same meaning as another. Words like “excellent”, “magnificent”, and “exceptional” can be synonyms of each other.

A simile refers to a figure of speech in which two unlike things are compared. These usually start off with “like” or “as”. You might say “she is like a flower”.

They are very different.
