“Formulaic” or “methodical”?

What’s the difference between these two words?

QUESTION

Does “formulaic” and “methodical” mean the same thing? Can they be used interchangeably?

ANSWER

“Formulaic” is an adjective that refers to something made according to a formula, or that it is or constitutes a formula. “Formulaic” also carries the meaning of “ordinary”, in that something that is described as formulaic is viewed as ordinary.

“Methodical” is an adjective that refers to something being done in a very systematic and orderly way. So if you do things carefully step by step, you are a very methodical person.
