Misusing the Word 'Revert'

Many executives have used the word ‘Revert’ to mean ‘Reply’ in their correspondences. But this is a mistake.

To Revert or Reply

Have you received a letter or an email with “Please revert by this week”?

Do you know that ‘revert’ does not mean ‘reply’?

To revert is to ‘return to a previous state’.

Remember This

In your next email, be mindful not to use ‘Revert’ when you mean to say ‘Reply.’

It is better to ask for a response by saying, “Please reply by the end of the day.”
